Paying in full avoids one fee, not two

Interest

Charged by your card issuer on a balance carried past the due date. Pay the full statement balance by the due date and it is $0.

Convenience fee

Charged by the biller or a payment service the moment you pay, often about 1.75% to 3%. Paying the card off later does not undo it.
